INTENT / 目的

To connect building occupants with biologically diverse natural environments outdoors by providing accessible outdoor spaces.

Provide at least one accessible outdoor space that meets the following criteria:

Size — The outdoor space must be a minimum of 50 square feet (4.5 square meters) per occupant of the spaces provided, up to 25,000 square feet (2,300 square meters). If parking is located on the project site, the total outdoor space must equal at least 25% of total parking area.

Vegetation — A minimum of 30% of the outdoor space floor area must include plants. The entire space must be made accessible for people with mobility, sensory, and neurocognitive disabilities.

Design — The space must incorporate at least two of the following universal design strategies from the U.S. General Services Administration's Accessible Outdoor Environments: Accessible routes, tactile maps, braille signage, accessibility with audible and sensory features, sensory garden spaces, edible plants, art elements, and a water feature.
