INTENT / 目的
To reduce runoff volume and improve water quality by replicating the natural hydrology and water balance of the site, based on historical conditions and undeveloped ecosystems in the region.
| Option 1. Minimum Rainwater Management /
| Option 2. Enhanced Rainwater Management /
| Option 3. Comprehensive Rainwater Management /
Option 1. Minimum Rainwater Management (1 Point)
Projects up to 70 acres. Use low-impact development (LID) and green infrastructure (GI) to replicate natural site hydrology. Retain on site the runoff from the developed site (for the 85th percentile local or regional rainfall event). Manage runoff from the developed site for the 85th percentile local or regional rainfall event using documented LID and GI strategies from the LEED v5 Reference Guide.
Option 2. Enhanced Rainwater Management (2 Points)
Meet Option 1, plus manage runoff from the developed site for the 95th percentile local or regional rainfall event.
Option 3. Comprehensive Rainwater Management (3 Points)
Meet Option 2, plus design the site to maintain natural site hydrology by following one of these paths:
- Path 1. Zero Lot Line — Projects with a zero-lot-line that can demonstrate more than 50% of the rainwater from the building footprint is captured on-site or in an off-site system.
- Path 2. Pre-Development Replication — Projects where the proposed design captures the difference between the pre-development and post-development runoff volume for the 95th percentile rainfall event using LID and GI practices that infiltrate, evapotranspirate, or collect and reuse at least 25% of the runoff from the impervious surfaces within the LEED project boundary.
Exemptions / 豁免
- Healthcare, data centers, warehouses, and distribution centers are only eligible for Option 1.
- Previously developed sites with 50% or more existing impervious area are only eligible for Option 1.
