INTENT 意图

To quantify the embodied carbon impacts of the project's structural, enclosure, and hardscape materials, identify the top sources of embodied carbon, and develop strategies to reduce embodied carbon through design, material selection, and specification.

1. Scope of Assessment 评估范围

Quantify the embodied carbon of the project's structural, enclosure, and hardscape materials using a lifecycle assessment (LCA) approach consistent with ISO 14040/44. The assessment must cover, at minimum, the cradle-to-gate (A1-A3) lifecycle stages.

Note on Scope 3 Emissions 范围三排放说明:The assessment should also consider the project's Scope 3 emissions — indirect emissions that occur in the project's value chain, including those from extraction and production of purchased materials.

2. Carbon Hotspot Analysis 碳热点分析

During the conceptual or schematic design phase, conduct a carbon hotspot analysis to identify the top three material contributors to the project's embodied carbon. This analysis enables early-stage design intervention to target the most impactful material choices.

4. Reduction Strategy 减排策略

Based on the results of the carbon hotspot analysis, develop and document embodied carbon reduction strategies. The strategies should identify specific design changes, material substitutions, and specification improvements that could measurably reduce the project's embodied carbon footprint.

Important: 重要说明:A Whole Building Lifecycle Assessment (WBLCA) is NOT required at this prerequisite stage. WBLCA is an option under MRc2: Reduce Embodied Carbon for projects seeking additional points. The prerequisite requires quantification and assessment — not a complete WBLCA.
