A typical design process is linear and fragmented. One team member completes a task and passes the work off to the next person. Each team member completes their work in a silo, without collaboration. For example, a conventional new construction project begins with a client setting basic goals and handing them off to the design team, who hands the design off to the construction team, who then hands it over to the commissioning provider before ultimately transferring responsibility to facility operations. This approach disrupts information flows that are needed to complete certain analyses.
