Design ventilation and exhaust airflows within 10% of each other and include a testing, adjusting, and balancing (TAB) report demonstrating balanced ventilation in commissioning scope.

Residential (2 points): Meet NC requirements for balanced ventilation AND infiltration. Compartmentalize each dwelling unit. Perform blower door test per ANSI/RESNET/ICC 380.

OPTION 2 Ventilation Energy Recovery (1 point)

Fan systems supplying outdoor air must have energy or heat recovery system with minimum 70% enthalpy recovery ratio or minimum 75% sensible heat recovery ratio. Provisions to bypass/control during moderate outside air conditions. Fan systems supplying <15% total outdoor air excluded.
C&S only: Fan systems must supply ≥50% of ventilation air required per ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2022.

OPTION 3 Thermal Bridging (1 point)

Comply with prescriptive thermal bridging requirements of ASHRAE 90.1-2022, Section 5.5.5(a), including Sections 5.5.5.1–5.5.5.5, without applying exceptions for climate zones 0–3.
