Use on-site renewable energy systems to offset building energy cost. Points awarded per % of annual building energy cost offset:

Use building energy cost from ASHRAE 90.1 Appendix G (all energy costs, excluding unmet loads and exceptional energy use). For projects pursuing EAc3 Points 1–8, the renewable energy contribution to the proposed design is calculated separately from EAc3.
Engage in a minimum 10-year contract for qualified new off-site resources. If Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA), contract must be for estimated annual generation ≥ project's annual electricity consumption.

Qualified new resources: New renewable energy generation capacity added to the grid within 5 years prior to contract start. Must demonstrate additionality. Solar PV and wind only — other technologies on a case-by-case basis.
Off-site delivery: Electricity from the renewable energy system must be fed into the same balancing authority region/ISO/RTO as the project. Community solar eligible with minimum 10-year subscription. Use of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) from new resources qualifies when project retains and retires RECs.
